Week 10 term 2

End of term already!

Room 13 have had a very busy term. We have been sharing our learning using our online "seesaw" journals. These give our family and whānau the opportunity to see what we have been learning throughout the day. We really like it when they respond to our learning stories.

This term we investigated where our school rubbish and recycling goes.
We looked at our rubbish and decided we could do a better job of sorting our recycling from our rubbish.
We learnt that our milk cartons get recycled in things like new walls, roof tiles and books.
We learnt that our worm farm likes to eat wet, shredded paper.
We found a lot of paper was being thrown out. If you recycle one ton of paper you can save 17 trees.  Some parents came and helped us to recycle our classroom paper waste. Our favourite part of the process was "mushing" the paper waste.
Mushed paper makes a paper pulp. You use a deckle to scoop up paper pulp.
 Squeeze out the extra water.

Then you need to dry your recycled paper on a board for three or four days. We discovered that thick pulp makes cardboard that is hard to cut with scissors. We have put our recycled paper in our making area for future projects.

Week 4 Be Bright Eat Right

We were lucky enough to have another visitor come to school this week. A magician called Wes came and presented a magic show called: Be Bright Eat Right

You can see the healthy plate of food is half full of fruit and vegetables.  We checked our lunch boxes and found our parents had given us lots of healthy fruit and vegetables.
We were amazed that Wes pulled a live rabbit and a red bird out of boxes. We wondered how he did it.  Lots of Room 13 children wrote that these were  their favourite parts of the show. Come and see the writing in our classroom,  especially if you were away and missed the show.
Lots of students also wrote that this part of the show was their favourite because Wes made butterflies come out of his fan with magic and pure water. We know water is the best choice when you are thirsty.
Cash starred in the show and demonstrated all the healthy vitamins and minerals that your body gets from eating healthy food and drinking water.

Our school is supporting the healthy food options by getting rid of sugary drinks and from the canteen.

We visited Room 12 this week to see what they had been learning about Healthy Food. They had been trying a range of fruits and vegetables and used them to make healthy plates of food and vegetable sculptures. You can see the pictures of their creations and our buddy time here.

Welcome to Room 13

We have had such a busy week in our newly opened classroom.  We are learning lots of new routines and are enjoying our new space.

A highlight of our week was the School Cultural Celebration day. We found out what all the other syndicates have been learning and got the chance to share our slideshow and art work.

The Shoshin Kendo club gave us a martial arts demonstration.
Some Whenua students were lucky enough to have a go.
